Blood film preparation and staining are well known techniques in haematology laboratories. In principle it is a very simple procedure but there are many reasons why the test can easily fail or be less effective than it should be. Most haematology laboratories use the wedge technique for preparation of blood smears and a manual method or automated slide stainer to stain the prepared blood smears.
